Along with Carbon’s Billionaire Beach, Malibu’s the Colony takes the cake for luxe beach living anywhere in the world. The exclusive gated 100-home enclave assembles two rows of houses right on the beach just west of the state beaches of Surfrider and Malibu Lagoon. With the median home price at $13 million, it remains one of LA’s priciest neighborhoods.
The Colony’s stretch of land was originally owned by May Rindge, along with most all of present-day Malibu, who after financial issues caved, allowing people to first build on the beach and eventually purchase beachfront land. Thus, the community was first known as the Malibu Movie Colony with its star-occupants such as Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, Bing Crosby and others. At that time, the Colony was not only gated, but had armed guards at the front entrance.
Today’s stars still flock to this private beach neighborhood. Recent Colony residents have been Rob Reiner, Tom Hanks and Jim Carrey. Jason Statham just sold his home in Malibu’s The Colony for a cool $18 million in 2019.
The Colony is not only historic but a prestigious community of already world-famous Malibu.
