Holmby Hills Real Estate Knowledge

Holmby Hills is part of the golden triangle, including Beverly Hills and Bel Air. The area is characterized for massive estates and large private pieces of land amongst winding suburban roads all centered around Holmby Park. Although the area was made somewhat famous for the Playboy Mansion in the neighborhood, most miss the area entirely whilst taking the large thoroughfares that that frame it like Wilshire or Sunset Boulevard. It is very much a bedroom community like Brentwood, and it is another of LA’s most affluent neighborhoods.

The land that is Holmby Hills was originally Mexican hands, when it was bought and sold a couple times eventually to a wealthy English entrepreneur named Arthur Letts, Sr. He purchased the land as a side venture to create a subdivision of grandiose estates, which his son-in-law helped him complete. Letts named the subdivision after his birthplace in England. Notably, Letts had the foresight to bury power lines to preserve the upscale atmosphere.

Once again, the rich and famous of the time were attracted to the area and helped develop the area into what it is today. It still remains an ultra-luxe, private neighborhood in LA.

Lifestyle and Homes in Holmby Hills

Although each area of the Golden Triangle is Los Angeles luxury real estate at its finest, people choose Holmby Hills for the same reasons individuals such as Walt Disney and Hugh Heffner did: large flat private estates that are very inconspicuous to the public eye, yet are extremely accessible to Hollywood, Beverly Hills and the Westside.

There is Holmby Hills, and then there is the neighborhood of Little Holmby which is just north of Sunset Boulevard along Beverly Glen Boulevard. Little Holmby can be imagined as Holmby Hills’ less affluent, yet still classy relative. With Little Holmby, homes for sale go for less, yet there is the same great location and private, tucked-away characteristic, making it an attractive alternative.

For families, the schools in Holmby Hills are top-notch and there are two public parks in the neighborhood. The first one is Holmby Park, which is in the center of the community. The second is De Neve Square Park just north of Sunset and south of the Beverly Glen neighborhood.

The top-rated public and private schools around Holmby Hills are a huge draw for families. Its centralized location to Beverly Hills, Bel Air and the Westside plus ease of getting in and out is very advantageous.
