When someone says that they live in Malibu, that is equivalent to someone saying they live in the large expanses that are Los Angeles or Beverly Hills. Malibu is a 27-mile long beach city that extends from Topanga State Beach to the county line of Los Angeles bordering Ventura county. It also stretches up into the mountains and canyons, adjoined with Topanga, Calabasas and Agoura Hills.
The point is there are many beaches and neighborhoods in Malibu with Carbon Beach being a very popular destination not necessarily for surf as the waves are quite calm, but for its affluent sandy setting. Carbon Beach, commonly referred to as “Billionaire’s Beach,” was once under dispute by resident David Geffen and others to make it a private beach, but the battle was eventually lost. However, residents still reap the rewards since it is not commercialized, and few know about it or where the entrance lies.
Carbon Beach is the next beach past La Costa beach and starts at about Carbon Canyon Road, extending to Sweetwater Canyon Drive. This stretch of ultra-luxe beach front properties sell for up to $40 million, with even one currently on the market for $75 million.
